About

The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) implements a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded Laboratory Systems Strengthening (LSS) Work Plan for the Ministry of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe. The following vacancy has arisen within BRTI in Collaboration with MOHCC.

Qualification and Skills Requirements

  • Experience in data processing, database development and management and reporting using Python programming, SQL Database, Power BI/Tableau and mapping software such as ArcGIS/QGIS.

  • Proven working experience as a Data Analyst or Business Data Analyst.

  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and

    segmentation techniques.

  • Hands-on experience with SQL database design as well as Python programming.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL

    etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks).

  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS,

    SAS etc).

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts

    of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Adept or proficient at queries, report writing and presenting findings.

A Non-Profit Organization Promoting Health Research for Development in Southern Africa

Monitoring and Evaluation Professional with health program M&E work experience; graduate degree in Data Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Monitoring and Evaluation and/or Public Health desirable. Master degree in any of the above discipline is an added advantage.

Good interpersonal skills, team player, able to work under pressure. Sensitivity to the concerns of the developing world and able to work with local and national authorities from different cultural and professional backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the organizational database.

  • Develop ETL tools and data pipelines to connect the database to the reporting tools.

  • Develop reports that combine data from different datasets.

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.

  • Develop data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency

    and quality.

  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain data systems.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.

  • Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate

    and correct code problems.

  • Work with program management to prioritize information needs.

  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.

The BRTI was registered in Zimbabwe in 1995 as a non-profit making organization under Section 22 of the Companies Act (Reg. No.1676/95). The Institute implements research projects and provides training and support services in public health, biomedicine and health research mostly focusing on HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and operational research. Its mission is to promote the health and quality of life of the peoples of Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa Development Community SADC region through fostering research, training and research informed interventions in all fields that are relevant to essential national health needs. The main role of the BRTI is to provide the support that researchers in all aspects of health need to become effective in influencing policy. Zimbabwe is a recipient of the fund (2020-2022) to implement a national program entitled, ‘Addressing gaps in surveillance of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacteria in Zimbabwe’’. Position Summary

 

The Finance and Operations Manager will report to the Program Director of the BRTI LSS project.

The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for providing oversight for all finance, operations, human resources, and administrative functions of the program, and will be responsible for strategic planning on operational, human resources and financial components of the project and will have oversight of all financial and operations team

The position is based in Harare Zimbabwe and may be expected to occasionally travel to other provinces and districts when necessary to ensure program compliance with institutional and USG rules and regulations.

The organisation did not carry out hydrological surveys for underground water abundance hence we have provided estimates for quoting purposes which is subject to variation upon actual drilling of the boreholes.

XACT-19 Study: Evaluating the impact of computer-assisted x-ray diagnosis and other triage tools to optimise Xpert orientated community-based active case finding for TB and COVID-19. There have been rapid advances in the development of triage testing for TB, which refers to screening tests that are generally applied in a community-based setting. This multi-country trial aims to determine the utility of CAD as a triage tool to further optimise the Active Case Finding (ACF) model. Importantly, COVID-19 and TB symptoms overlap, and testing is limited owing to the stigma and affordability associated with both diseases. Therefore, XACT-19 also aims to provide data pertaining to the feasibility of co-screening and testing for TB and COVID-19.

Position Summary

Operate point-of-care x-ray machine to produce diagnostic images for TB and COVID-19

Work with a local community healthcare worker, nurse and driver to set up on site.

Risk-based screening, recruitment and testing of participants for TB and COVID-19 using point-of-care diagnostic tools.

Prepare thorough documentation of activities using Case Report Forms (CRFs) in accordance with the protocol.

The position encompasses a multitude of tasks and requires a lively person to communicate with the relevant institutional, community and health facility stakeholders and personnel.
